According to Forbes, the crypto debit card company Wirex is shifting from retail business to stablecoin banking as a service, providing businesses with core infrastructure such as stablecoin cards, bank accounts, and cashback. Wirex is a major member of Visa and Mastercard, and can issue cards without going through sponsor banks.

Being able to skip sponsor banks and issue cards directly means cutting out an entire layer of commissions—reducing costs and improving efficiency for enterprise clients is obvious; with Visa and Mastercard’s dual membership endorsement, if this transition can be executed smoothly, traditional card-issuing banks are likely to lose sleep.
