📊 The US–Iran tensions escalate; US stocks close lower and oil prices hit a six-week high; Google’s earnings fall short of expectations—what is the market trading after hours?
Google drops more than 4% after hours, but AI infrastructure stocks surge—what is the market pricing?
Alphabet’s earnings beat expectations, yet its capital expenditure guidance spikes; it fell more than 4% after hours. At the same time, AI infrastructure stock CoreWeave is up 3.7%, while Micron rises 2.9%. Tesla’s Q2 revenue grows 26% but profits fall 18%; free cash flow turns negative, and it continues to drop nearly 4% after hours.
The market is repricing: profits across the AI industry chain are shifting from the application layer to the infrastructure layer. Google’s surge in capital expenditures is interpreted as cost pressure, while CoreWeave and Micron are seen as order confirmation. Tesla’s profit decline is in contrast with its capital expenditure commitments (more than $25 billion for the full year), and the market chooses to sell first out of caution.
Oil prices hit a six-week high and energy stocks broadly rise, and macro risk-hedging sentiment remains. But the internal divergence within tech stocks is even more worth watching: who is truly benefiting from AI capital spending—and who is just being passively billed?
