The importance of geographic location for infrastructure.. a latency timeline map places Europe at the top in Solana block production!
The Solana network relies on a very fast rotation mechanism for block producers (Leaders), where the right to produce blocks moves to a new node every 1.6 seconds (with 4 consecutive blocks every 400 milliseconds). In the current era (Epoch), servers located in Europe dominate the landscape by producing 67% of the total blocks, making Europe the most important nerve center for the network’s response speed.
Data shows huge differences in connectivity and response time (Latency); the average connection delay in Frankfurt is 72 milliseconds, compared with 140 milliseconds in the US East. This sharp contrast means that traders, market makers, and MEV bots located near European servers have a crucial time advantage in processing transactions and reaching the current Leader before others.
Using Latency monitoring tools gives developers and traders accurate visibility into selecting the best connection points (RPC Nodes) and reducing transmission time, which is what truly makes the difference between a trade succeeding or failing during periods of high network congestion
