Tonight, Google releases its earnings report.
Everyone watches the profit.
I only look at one number: capital expenditure.
Because it decides not just Google, but the money across the entire AI industry supply chain—whether it keeps flowing downstream.
Google is the “water faucet” at the top of this money river.
Big players spend on: chips → memory, power.
It stands at the very upstream end, and capex is the master switch.
And this faucet is being turned on to an alarming degree:
capex doubles to 1800-190B,
a company that earns 1 trillion a year is also issuing shares and raising debt to pour money into AI—
betting the whole balance sheet on a gamble.
But its cash is bleeding:
free cash flow is down about half year over year.
The profits it’s making are turning into rebar and concrete for data centers.
The CEO said it in person: what’s missing isn’t demand, it’s capacity.
Tonight, you only need to watch one traffic light:
capex keeps increasing = green light;
when it softens and says “optimize efficiency” = red light.
Capital never disappears; it only moves.
The starting point is tonight’s faucet.
Google is drawing numbers tonight.
Guess: green light or red light?🤔
