#月之暗面传以500亿美元估值Pre-IPO
The “Kimi moment” of an AI unicorn: the logic and hidden concerns behind the valuation rocket
Moomin’s Dark Side plan to kick off a Pre-IPO round with a pre-investment valuation of $50 billion. In less than a year, the valuation has jumped from $4.3 billion to more than ten times that—an astounding capital miracle.
The main driver behind the surge is technological breakthrough. Its new open-source model, Kimi K3, takes the top spot on the code leaderboard with 2.8 trillion parameters. In half a year, ARR rockets from zero to $300 million. API revenue accounts for more than 70%, and pricing not only doesn’t fall—it rises, demonstrating the viability of a high-value commercialization path. Capital views this as a “China version of Anthropic.” After Zhipu and MiniMax listed, the demonstration effect of their market-cap blowouts has also opened up room for imagination.
But even a $50 billion valuation still comes with concerns: large-model technology iterates extremely fast, and it remains to be seen whether K3’s leading edge can be sustained. To go from $300 million ARR to supporting a $50 billion valuation, commercialization would need to achieve exponential growth. Dense rounds of financing also bring the risk of post-listing share-price drops.
From Yang Zhilin’s earlier stance half a year ago of “not in a hurry to list” to now pushing ahead with an IPO, the sharp strategic shift reflects both confidence rooted in technological breakthroughs and the urgency of a capital window. No matter the outcome, this will become a landmark event in China’s AI capital-ization process.
