#月之暗面传以500亿美元估值Pre-IPO
Kimi’s moment for an AI unicorn: the ambition and challenges behind a $50B pre-IPO valuation
On July 22, 2026, AI model unicorn Moonshot Dark Side was reported to plan to launch a pre-IPO financing round in August, targeting a pre-money valuation of as high as $50B. This is only three years and three months after its angel round valuation of $300 million when it was founded in 2023.
A rocket-curve valuation surge. In 2026, Moonshot Dark Side’s capital expansion has been fastest of all. From January to February, it completed three consecutive rounds of financing; its valuation rose from $10 billion to $18 billion. In May, it raised about $2 billion, pushing its valuation above $20 billion. In June, a new round was launched, and the pre-money valuation climbed to $31.5 billion. Now aiming for $50B means the valuation has jumped from $4.3 billion to over ten times in less than a year—raising more than $3.9 billion in six months, with a pace that can’t be found among Chinese large-model AI unicorns.
K3 is the biggest “valuation catalyst.” The Kimi K3 released on July 17, with 2.8 trillion parameters, topped the Arena code leaderboard and saw its open-source model first surpass the closed-source model—earning a moniker from Wall Street as “China’s another DeepSeek moment.” After K3’s release, because demand far exceeded expectations, the company even paused subscriptions for new C-end users. The technical breakthrough directly translated into commercial confidence—its June ARR reached $300 million, and after K3 was launched, daily sales revenue rose to at least six times that before the release.
Strategic considerations for the pre-IPO. The company has distributed shareholder resolution documents to investors and is negotiating with Goldman Sachs and CICC regarding the underwriting role, aiming to dismantle the variable interest entity (VIE) structure before the end of this month. A $328k valuation puts it in the same range as DeepSeek, but the figure also brings enormous pressure—compute costs for model training and inference remain persistently high, and whether monetization can support such a lofty valuation is still unknown. From “not in a hurry to go public” to sprinting for Hong Kong-listed shares, Moonshot Dark Side is using the capital-market window to secure the most abundant ammunition for this AI marathon.
