Wu said he learned that Galaxy announced the launch of the “Galaxy Bitcoin Quantum Readiness Initiative,” aiming to prepare in advance for potential threats that quantum computing in the future could pose to the foundational cryptography of Bitcoin. It will provide up to $5 million in funding to support developers’ research into quantum-resistant transaction schemes, post-quantum signature algorithms, wallet and custody migration tools, and security audits. Galaxy also set up a quantum advisory committee, and Galaxy Research will continue to publish related research. The company emphasized that, at present, there is no quantum computer capable of actually breaking Bitcoin’s cryptographic system, but considering that protocol upgrades could take many years, technical preparation needs to be advanced ahead of time.
