Just saw someone complain that a cross-chain transfer hadn’t arrived after half a day. I checked for a long time and found out it was my own node’s RPC that was lagging. Sigh—on-chain data looks real-time, but really it all depends on whether the node you’re connected to has a decent conscience. Some nodes “race ahead” and push updates to you immediately, while others are several seconds behind or even minutes behind. That’s why you see other people already finishing their buys and pulling the price down, yet you’re still waiting for transaction confirmation.

In the end, a lot of today’s so-called “on-chain” experience is basically some RPC treating you like a joke. Indexers are similar too—whether they’re fast or not depends entirely on how closely they’re connected to the node and the mempool. Lately, with policies getting tighter, everyone has lowered their expectations for deposits and withdrawals. More people have retreated from “on-chain” and kept messing around; the result is that even just checking your balance now depends on the node’s mood. It’s pretty dark humor.

There are plenty of tutorials that talk about “how to set up your own node to be safer,” but I don’t have the patience to read that. I’ll just look at which RPC has lower latency. Everything else is just talk. For now, that’s it—my saved USDT should keep getting thrown into contracts to earn interest, so it’s less of a hassle.
