▫️ Germany's 2027 budget plans to borrow over 2030 billion euros, military spending increases sharply

The draft German budget for 2027 shows the government plans to borrow an additional over 2030 billion euros, higher than previous forecasts and far exceeding the 2024 level. Total budget expenditure is about 5554 billion euros, with investment rising to 1175 billion euros, mainly for upgrading infrastructure such as transportation, digitalization, and hospitals. Meanwhile, defense spending increases significantly, with the core budget reaching 1098 billion euros, plus support for Ukraine and other security costs, bringing total defense spending to around 1301 billion euros. Germany is expanding borrowing and special funds to boost investment in infrastructure and the military to cope with weak economic conditions and geopolitical risks. The draft budget will be submitted to Parliament in September and is expected to complete approval before the end of the year.
