Anthropic has just proposed to launch an AI policy mechanism worldwide, and the regulatory heavy hand is hitting itself.
On June 12th local time, Anthropic issued a statement saying: The U.S. government, citing national security reasons, issued an export control order suspending all access for foreign nationals (regardless of whether they are inside or outside the United States) to Fable 5 and Mythos 5, including Anthropic's foreign employees.
The direct result of this order is that Anthropic must immediately disable the new series models Fable 5 and Mythos 5 to ensure all customers comply. Access to all other Anthropic models will not be affected.
Anthropic stated that the company received the government directive at 5:21 PM that afternoon. However, the letter did not specify the concerns related to national security.
