Mars Financial News, June 5 — The World Trade Organization's "Goods Trade Barometer" shows that despite ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and high energy prices putting pressure on trade, global merchandise trade remained resilient in the first half of 2026. The current barometer index is 101.7, above the baseline of 100, indicating that trade volume is still above trend levels. Data shows that demand for electronic components related to artificial intelligence investment has grown strongly, with the electronic components index rising to 105.5, becoming an important driver supporting trade. Meanwhile, both air freight and container shipping indices remain in expansion. The WTO expects that, under the baseline scenario, global merchandise trade will grow by 1.9% in 2026; if high energy prices persist, the growth rate may drop to 1.4%, while additional growth of 0.5 percentage points could be driven by AI investment.
