Shanghai: Develop and strengthen a batch of emerging pillar industries, and proactively plan for future industries

Golden Finance reported that on June 1, according to The Paper, Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng chaired a municipal government executive meeting on June 1. The meeting generally approved the “Shanghai City Accelerates the Advancement of New Industrialization and Builds a Modern Industrial System ‘15th Five-Year Plan’” and pointed out that it is necessary to speed up the construction of a modern industrial system with advanced manufacturing as its backbone, and strive to be the vanguard and go ahead in promoting new industrialization. Efforts should be made on both fronts to consolidate the foundation for industrial development. Actively promote the optimization and upgrading of traditional pillar industries such as automobiles, steel, and petrochemicals, and extend them toward the high end of the value chain; strengthen the strategic leading role of the three major pioneering industries; develop and grow a number of emerging pillar industries; and make forward-looking plans for future industries. The city should insist on innovation-led development to forge industrial competitive advantages. Accelerate breakthroughs in tackling new technologies, the research and development and application of new products, and the cultivation and opening of new scenarios; support the efficient transformation and industrialization of scientific and technological achievements, so that more “science and technology flowers” bear “industrial fruits.” The city should uphold transformation toward intelligent, green, and integrated development to promote industrial transformation and upgrading. Strengthen demonstration and guidance, improve the evaluation system, optimize service guarantees, and provide stronger industrial support for the city’s high-quality economic development.
