Sui mainnet experiences three outages; upgrade vulnerabilities are the main culprit.
ME News reports that the Sui Foundation has released an incident report stating that the mainnet suffered three consecutive outages following the v1.72 upgrade. The first two were caused by the address balance functionality, which led to incorrect gas fee calculations; even when transactions were reverted, gas fees were still deducted, resulting in negative account balances and validator node crashes. The third outage was due to a vulnerability in the random number generator during node restart, which prevented Epoch from shutting down properly. The Foundation said the issue has been resolved, user funds were not affected, settlement transactions were not rolled back, and it will enhance fault tolerance mechanisms to reduce future risks.
