Gold Financial reports that on May 31, White House National Economic Council Director Brian Deese said on Sunday that media coverage of economic news often causes people to overfocus on the most severe issues at a specific moment.
Deese said during an appearance on ABC's "This Week," "One thing I've noticed at the White House is that whenever a certain consumer price data point looks a bit disappointing, we only talk about that one."
He made the above statement regarding gasoline prices and their impact on inflation.
Deese stated that everyone should focus on the big picture, not just energy prices or a temporarily struggling sector of the economy.
"You should take a calm view of these fluctuations and pay attention to changes in real wages," he said.
"If you look carefully, you'll see that increases in employment, stock market gains, and strong corporate profits are translating into higher wages."
