The Vatican released *Magnifica Humanitas* on May 25. It is the first official doctrinal document in the history of Catholicism to focus exclusively on AI, and it symbolizes AI as a new industrial revolution under the name of Leo XIV. The text emphasizes that AI must be disarmed, even placing it alongside nuclear weapons. Anthropic co-founder Olah attended, saying that AI models come from “human language growth,” mirroring joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness; and he noted that laboratories find it difficult to answer core questions such as the benefits to poor countries and the meaning of prosperity, calling for religious and philosophical involvement. The encyclical warns that “automatic prosperity” is often an illusion, and that institutional design is needed to enable broad sharing; it also stresses that human wisdom and dignity should guide technology rather than be controlled by it.
