Middle East Situation | Iranian Foreign Ministry: Negotiations Make Progress but Still Face Difficulties
Xinhua News Agency reported that the spokesman for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bagheri, said that negotiations between Iran and the United States have made some progress, but whether an agreement can be reached soon “depends on the United States.” He reiterated that any hostile actions targeting Iran will be met with a response.
Speaking at a press conference in Tehran, he said that, at present, both sides—Iran and the U.S.—are still exchanging information through mediation channels via Pakistan. The recent disclosed progress is the result of weeks of indirect negotiations. The two sides are close to reaching consensus on many issues, but the U.S. position is contradictory and keeps changing, bringing difficulties to the negotiation process.
Bagheri pointed out that, for now, the focus of all parties remains on moving forward with the text of the memorandum of understanding, emphasizing that the Lebanon issue will become part of the potential memorandum of understanding.
