Once again, the story about a future-person prophecy is making the rounds. A person named Rei Kokubun, who claims to have come from 2058, is reportedly called the “strongest future person in Japan” online. She is said to have predicted the number of gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics, the collapse of the Nikkei average, and even the timing of former Prime Minister Abe’s resignation—and it’s her apparent high hit rate that has been growing her followers.
According to her own account, she was born in 2034 and graduated from the Faculty of Engineering in the Architecture major at the Tokyo National University. She claims that in December 2019, she came to the present using a spacetime transfer device. Honestly, there’s no scientific basis for time travel, but because her predictions on X seem to be coming true one after another, her supporters genuinely believe that she holds the secret to time.
What’s interesting is this future prophet’s cryptocurrency strategy. She says that from late 2019 to early 2020, she bought large amounts of more than 1,400 Ethereum, put them in a hardware wallet, and buried them in her parents’ yard. As for why she chose Ethereum instead of Bitcoin, she says it’s because the Ethereum ecosystem offers more application opportunities and has higher upside potential.
But here’s where it gets really interesting. According to the future-person prophecy, by 2058 Bitcoin will have surged to an astonishing level—but at that point, it will supposedly be in a state where it’s “only something you can sell and you can’t buy.” In other words, once Bitcoin reaches 780 million yen, new ways to acquire it will be restricted, or it will no longer be suitable for trading. Hearing this, her followers are excited—thinking there’s still room to buy Bitcoin now, before that happens.
However, if you think about it calmly, there are also questionable parts about whether the prophet’s past “hits” are truly “uncannily accurate.” A lot of what she predicted—such as forecasts of an economic slowdown or changes in politics—are things that can be inferred from the flow of events and rumors circulating at the time. There may also be elements of luck and interpretations added after the fact. Some researchers even point out that she may simply be using vague hints to attract users’ attention.
From an investment standpoint, whatever this future-person prophecy may be, it is true that renewed attention is being drawn to the long-term potential of Ethereum and Bitcoin. However, experts say that even if you believe in future information, you should first evaluate your own risk tolerance. In particular, there are also concerns that stories like “Bitcoin will only be sellable” could heat up market speculation or trigger panic selling.
In the end, the identity of this future prophet and whether her prophecies are true remain a mystery. For the crypto market, it may just be an entertaining talking point—but for the people who believe her, it’s a serious guide. That said, regardless of whether you believe in future information, when it comes to investing, your own judgment and risk management are what matter most. Whether time travelers really exist or this is just a grand piece of entertainment, ultimately, all we can do is watch how the market and reality play out.
