DeepSeek will create a competitor to Claude Code and Codex - ForkLog: cryptocurrencies, AI, singularity, future
Chinese AI startup DeepSeek is forming a new team to develop Code Harness — a tool for autonomous programming. This was reported by company engineer Deli Chen.
The developer posted two job openings on social media: a product manager and a research and development engineer. Both positions are based in Beijing.
The new solution will directly compete with Claude Code from Anthropic and Codex from OpenAI.
According to Chen, the team will create Code Harness “from scratch.” He described the project as “DeepSeek Code or something like that.”
The job descriptions use the formula “model + harness = agent.”
The harness refers to a layer above the LLM. It manages context, step planning, memory, tool invocation, file handling, terminal, testing, and feedback.
DeepSeek aims to offer not just an ordinary code generation assistant, but an agent-based product for performing multi-step tasks in a development environment.
Candidates are expected to have experience with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Manus, and OpenClaw. The requirements also include understanding agent cycles, MCP, multi-agent systems, context management, and vibe coding.
The team will work closely with DeepSeek researchers.
DeepSeek V4 supports integration with Claude Code via an Anthropic-compatible API. The version V4 Flash released on April 24 costs $0.14 per 1 million input tokens. In comparison, Claude Opus 4.7 costs $15 for the same volume.
Recall that in February, Anthropic accused three Chinese AI startups — DeepSeek, Moonshot, and MiniMax — of a large-scale campaign using Claude to improve their own models.
