In 2025, I notice that more and more Vietnamese friends are interested in buying U.S. stocks. Actually, investing in U.S. stocks is not as complicated as many people think; just understanding how to play is enough to get started.

Wall Street remains the heart of the world's finance. The two largest exchanges, NYSE and NASDAQ, host numerous giant companies like Google, Apple, Tesla. According to data, the U.S. stock market accounts for over 54% of the global value, with daily trading volume reaching up to 33 trillion USD. This figure shows why this market attracts investors.

There are 6 main ways to participate:

The first is CFD trading with leverage. This is the most popular method in Vietnam today. You don't need to own actual stocks, just predict the price direction. The advantage is low capital, and you can profit from both rising and falling prices. The downside is high risk if you don't know how to manage leverage.

The second is buying IPO stocks — newly listed stocks with rapid growth potential. However, the risk is also significant because the price is not stable yet.

The third is buying individual stocks of strong companies like Microsoft, Apple, or Amazon. This method requires large capital and you will directly own the stocks.

The fourth is investing in indices like S&P 500, Dow Jones, or Nasdaq 100. Instead of choosing individual stocks, you invest in a basket of stocks. This approach is safer but also requires substantial capital.

The fifth is buying ETF funds — funds that track indices. Professional fund managers handle your portfolio, reducing research effort.

The sixth is trading futures contracts. Similar to CFDs but on official futures exchanges.

Looking at the indices, S&P 500 represents the 500 largest-cap companies, reflecting the entire U.S. economy. Dow Jones is an index of 30 top blue-chip companies. Nasdaq 100 focuses on major tech companies.

Top companies like Microsoft (market cap $3.142 trillion), Apple ($2.638 trillion), Amazon ($1.867 trillion), Google ($1.873 trillion) are all major names. Tesla's market cap is about $549.79 billion, Nvidia $2.375 trillion. These are stocks you can consider when buying U.S. stocks.

Regarding trading hours, NYSE, NASDAQ, and AMEX operate from 20:30 to 3:00 Vietnam time (9:30-16:00 ET). Outside trading hours, you can still trade but with lower liquidity. The markets are closed on holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and U.S. Independence Day.

Currently, Vietnamese retail investors cannot directly buy U.S. stocks on major exchanges. The only way is through CFD platforms or international derivatives platforms. This method is popular because of small participation capital, simple procedures, and flexible leverage.

The key is that before buying U.S. stocks, you need to understand the market well, master knowledge, and choose reputable platforms. Investing always involves risks, but if you know how to manage risks and have a clear strategy, profit opportunities are entirely possible. The U.S. stock market is a fertile land for investors who know how to seize opportunities.
