Interesting statistics on the poorest countries in the world in 2025. I looked at the GDP per capita data and noticed that the poorest country is South Sudan with a figure of only $251. Next are Yemen ($417) and Burundi ($490). Mostly, these are countries in Africa and Asia where economic development significantly lags behind the global average.

What’s interesting is that even within this list, significant gaps are visible. For example, looking at the middle of the ranking — Tanzania ($1,280), Zambia ($1,332), Uganda ($1,338). And closer to the end of the list, countries like India ($2,878) appear, which, despite its huge population, still falls into the group of the poorest by this measure.

Central African Republic ($532), Malawi ($580), Madagascar ($595) — all regions facing serious development challenges. Sudan ($625), DRC ($743) also show critically low GDP per capita figures. It seems that geographic factors and political instability play a key role in the economic lag of these countries.
