So Grass just rolled out their Community Node option and honestly it looks pretty solid. Basically you can now grab their Grass extension from the Store, and if you use the Community Node version you're earning at 1.25x compared to the regular Chrome client. That's a 25% boost just for being an early tester.
Here's what caught my attention: it's still the same idea as the regular Grass extension where you run it in the background and share your unused internet bandwidth. They use that to grab public web content for AI training, and you get paid in points for it. The whole thing is designed so it barely touches your actual internet speed. Like, you won't notice it running.
The Community Node is basically their way of saying thanks to people willing to test new features before they go mainstream. When Grass launches something new, it hits the Community Node first, so you get early access to new earning opportunities. Pretty smart move.
Privacy-wise they're pretty clear: the Grass extension can't see your personal data or what you're doing online. It just pulls from public websites. And they're transparent about resource usage, which is refreshing.
The setup is stupid simple too. Download the Grass extension, sign up, and that's it. You just let it run and watch your points accumulate while you browse normally. No complicated settings or maintenance.
I think the appeal here is that AI is reshaping everything anyway, so why not get a cut of that value? Instead of your data just getting scraped for free, you're actually getting rewarded. The 1.25x multiplier on the Community Node makes it even more worth trying out if you're already into this kind of thing.
