Recently, I often need to register for overseas websites or test SMS verification temporarily. Buying new SIM cards is too costly, so I started researching various SMS receiving platforms. I’ve encountered many pitfalls before—some don’t receive messages, others have delays of half a day. Later, I found a few decent ones to share.
SMS receiving platforms are basically services that rent virtual numbers to receive verification codes. Unlike regular mobile numbers, these numbers are usually billed per use or on a monthly subscription, covering multiple countries and regions. They can protect privacy and are convenient for account testing, especially suitable for my needs.
Among the platforms I’ve personally tested, SMS-Activate and 5SIM perform the most stable overall, with verification codes arriving within 10 seconds generally, and full country coverage. If mainly using domestic numbers, Super Cloud SMS and XiaoNiao receive codes well; US number segments usually take less than 30 seconds, and Chinese numbers are even faster. Getsmscode is cheap but occasionally slow, suitable for light users.
When using SMS receiving platforms, be aware that some numbers are shared and may be flagged as risky. My experience is to prepare several numbers so I can switch immediately if one becomes invalid. Also, don’t rely on virtual numbers as long-term primary numbers; their security cannot be guaranteed. Additionally, don’t just look at the price when choosing a platform—opt for reputable ones with quick responses to avoid wasting time.
If you’re just testing interfaces temporarily, any SMS platform supporting API is enough. But if you want stable registration on a specific overseas website, it’s best to load several numbers. Some platforms also have a “one-click number switch” feature, which is very practical. Overall, using the right SMS platform can save a lot of trouble; the key is choosing the right platform and having multiple backup numbers.
