Bitcoin Core client developers have disclosed a CVE security vulnerability affecting versions from 0.14.0 up to before 29.0, which could allow miners to disable some nodes or execute malicious code through specially crafted invalid blocks.

Approximately 43% of nodes may still be running affected versions, but the vulnerability does not impact consensus, coins, or wallets, and exploiting it requires a costly and targeted attack by the miner. The outage does not affect recent versions or those earlier than 0.14.0.
