A unique step occurred in Africa when students began using Bitcoin (BTC) for real transactions on campus.
This innovation immediately drew attention as it was seen as a modern breakthrough in digital payment systems.
Goma University in the Democratic Republic of the Congo officially became the first higher education institution in Africa to accept payments using Bitcoin.
This momentum was marked by students purchasing 25 chickens from the campus farm using the crypto asset.
This transaction was not just an ordinary test, but part of the direct implementation of financial technology in daily life.
Students and campus entrepreneurs had previously been introduced to the concept of crypto since March.
“This initiative demonstrates UNIGOM’s commitment to supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, and adaptation to technological changes,” the campus stated in a LinkedIn post.
This move shows the campus’s commitment to supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, and adaptation to global technological developments.
The experiment also opens new opportunities for the digital ecosystem within the African educational environment.
