At 70 years old, Jackie Chan sits in front of the camera and says something that should be funny, but is deeply sad: "No one responds on WeChat." His own son has blocked him for three years. This is not a punchline from one of his action movies — this is his real life.
The last dinner with Jaycee Chan was over five years ago, in 2019. Before that, there were at least sporadic calls, but after 2014, it went silent. Jackie Chan himself admits that he raised his children with the harsh methods of his stunt team — there were even rules about how many layers of toilet paper to use. That’s not loving parenting, that’s control.
Jaycee Chan moved out and ended things. The only response to every attempt from his father was: "You do your thing." Jackie Chan tried to apologize, but what do you say after so many years? The distance between them grew and grew.
Then Lin Fengjiao came into the picture — as a mediator, as a bridge builder. Jackie Chan had to relearn how to communicate with his son. He cuts his thoughts into 15-second voice messages, adds a smiling emoji, and hopes. Sometimes Jaycee Chan responds with "Hmm." Nothing more. But at least it’s something.
Jackie Chan has written down the stories of his 70 years, all in a new book. The last page is intentionally left blank — a space for his son’s signature. A silent appeal, an open hand.
Do you also have someone in your phone who simply doesn’t respond? Who has blocked you, not out of malice, but out of pain? Jackie Chan’s son Jaycee Chan shows us that even love sometimes fails when you don’t know how to express it.
