Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem stated on the 27th that Hezbollah firmly opposes the Lebanese government engaging in direct negotiations with Israel, and proposed five conditions to end the Lebanon-Israel conflict, including demanding that Israel cease attacks on Lebanon’s land, sea, and air. Qassem issued a statement that day saying that negotiations between the Lebanese government and Israel and their results are “completely unrelated” to Hezbollah and are “meaningless” to Hezbollah, which will adhere to “defensive resistance.” Qassem said that the only acceptable path to resolve the current issues should include five conditions: Israel stopping attacks on Lebanon’s land, sea, and air; Israel withdrawing from its aggression territory; releasing detained Lebanese personnel; allowing displaced persons to return home; and carrying out reconstruction. Qassem emphasized that Hezbollah will not lay down its arms, and that Hezbollah’s armed forces are a “defensive force” in response to Israeli aggression. On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran, and Iran retaliated against Israeli and American military bases and other targets in the Middle East. As Iran’s main regional ally, Hezbollah began launching rockets into northern Israel on the evening of March 2, while Israel launched intense airstrikes on southern Lebanon, eastern Lebanon, and Beirut, and conducted ground operations in southern Lebanon.
