just stumbled on this breakdown of legit places for teens to work over summer and some of these hourly rates aren't bad at all. like i didn't realize packaging or stocking gigs could hit $18+ an hour, and delivery driver jobs are pushing $20.56. that's way better than the usual fast food minimum wage everyone assumes.
the wild part is the top earner - food service manager at $31.40/hr - but that requires actual restaurant experience first so it's not exactly a first job move. but if you've worked at a restaurant before, that's apparently the move to make more money.
there's also some interesting options if you're into specific stuff. like if you're obsessed with cars, automotive technician jobs hit almost $24/hr. carpenters are making $28.51. construction work is solid too at $22. even office clerk roles are paying $20.97 which is pretty decent for indoor work.
the article mentions finding places for teens to work through job fairs, asking in person at stores, checking with teachers or classmates for recommendations, or building a linkedin profile if you're going for office type jobs. some schools apparently have work-study programs too that give you credits while you're earning.
anyone here working summer jobs right now? what are you actually making?
