Just looked at some data on what different age groups actually spend living in Florida, and it's pretty eye-opening how much it varies depending on who you are.

So Gen X folks are dropping the most cash by far—around $46,284 a year on average. That's almost double what Gen Z spends and way more than millennials. Makes sense though, right? Most Gen Xers are in their peak earning years, buying bigger houses, nicer cars, supporting families. Meanwhile Gen Z is still figuring things out and boomers are mostly retired.

Looking at the breakdown, Gen X averages $7,138 on groceries, $6,882 on healthcare, $17,075 on housing annually. Baby boomers actually spend more on healthcare ($7,685) than Gen X does, which tracks. Millennials fall somewhere in the middle on most categories. Gen Z is the cheapest across the board—housing around $12,061 a year, transportation about $5,058.

What surprised me is how consistent this pattern is. Apparently every state follows the same generational spending trend, not just Florida. And yeah, Florida's overall cost of living index sits at 102.4, barely above the national average of 100, so it's not even one of the pricier states. But if you're Gen X with a family here? Your monthly expenses in Florida are definitely going to be substantial compared to other age groups. Worth keeping in mind if you're planning a move or budgeting for the future.
