Powell ends his final press conference as Chair with a "quip," emphasizing he will not be an "invisible chairman"

Golden Finance reported that on April 30, at the conclusion of his last press conference as Federal Reserve Chair on Wednesday local time, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell told reporters, “You won’t see me next time (won’t see you next time).” In fact, his remarks indicate that at the Fed’s next policy meeting in mid-June, it will be Kevin Walsh—not Powell—who will attend the post-meeting press conference. This “playful quip” also confirms Powell’s earlier promise: although he plans to continue serving as a Federal Reserve governor for a period after his term ends in May—because he is concerned about the Trump administration’s continued attacks on the Fed’s independence—he will not try to act as a “shadow chair” to undermine Walsh’s authority.
