I just saw that Shanghai has just released its new policies to boost the gaming and e-sports industry, and honestly, there are some pretty interesting things here. What caught my attention is that they are not only focusing on the development of traditional games but are also putting a lot of effort into blockchain technology.
According to reports, the government is actively supporting gaming and e-sports companies to invest in research and development of technologies such as large-scale AI, blockchain, big data, IoT, cloud computing, and development tools like graphics engines and 3D modeling software. Basically, they are telling the industry that they have backing to experiment with these technologies.
What I find most relevant is the blockchain part. They will promote its application in areas like copyright registration, rights protection, transactions, and settlements. This opens up a lot of possibilities for e-sports and gaming studios to explore new business models.
Additionally, they are encouraging collaborations between video game companies and hardware manufacturers, which means they will seek to expand games to more devices. Itโs a pretty comprehensive strategy to position Shanghai as a serious hub in the global e-sports industry.
This kind of public policy is what differentiates markets that understand where the industry is headed. Shanghai is clearly playing the long game.
