🚀MARA Establishes Foundation to Support Bitcoin Ecosystem Development
Bitcoin mining company MARA Chairman and CEO Fred Thiel announced at the “Bitcoin 2026” conference that the company has established the Mara Foundation.
The foundation will operate independently from MARA’s core business, focusing on the long-term security of the Bitcoin network, ecological resilience, and educational outreach. Funding areas include:

Support for open-source developers
Self-custody Bitcoin education
Policy advocacy and industry promotion
As the first initiative, the foundation will open a $100k donation voting to the community, with candidate organizations including:
Qala — Providing multilingual Bitcoin technical education
256 Foundation — Focusing on open-source mining hardware and software
Cet — Using Bitcoin incentives to provide low-cost wireless network services to communities in the Global South
