SEC Chair: Blockchain Enables T+0 Instant Settlement, the Most Exciting Aspect

Abstract generation in progress

On April 28, U.S. SEC Chair Gary Gensler stated in an interview at the Bitcoin 2026 conference that blockchain—distributed ledger technology—is the most exciting aspect of this development. I essentially take an agnostic view towards specific tokens themselves. Let the market decide what is best. However, the ability to achieve what we call T+0, which allows for instant settlement of many tools—though it may not apply to everything—enables the immediacy of delivery against payment and receipt against payment. I find this to be the most exciting because it can reduce the risks in our financial system, as every second between transaction time and clearing settlement carries risk for investors and both parties involved. In summary, we are working to promote and realize this within the United States. There are many existing participants, including current exchanges, but we also want to open this up to them. This is also a way for them to reduce their own market risks. Additionally, there are many good ideas from various groups, including those from the native crypto and blockchain communities. We hope to allow all these different flowers to bloom, which will solidify the U.S. as a market for thought and financial innovation, benefiting the world, consumers, investors, and our overall economy. I believe this is what we need to do.
