Japan holds its first expert meeting to advance the revision of the three security documents
CryptoWorld News: The Japanese government held its first expert meeting on the evening of the 27th to advance the revision of the “Three Security Documents,” including national security guarantees. The expert meeting will compile relevant recommendations before the end of this fall, to provide reference for the Japanese government to complete the revisions within the year. At the meeting, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said that the revision work is an important task that will determine the country’s fate. Japan should enhance its ability to respond to “new types of warfare,” prepare for long-term wars, and continue to promote development in areas such as maritime security, cybersecurity, and economic security guarantees. Increasing defense spending is one of the topics discussed at the meeting.
At the end of 2022, the Japanese government officially approved the new “Three Security Documents.” The documents state that in the 2023 to 2027 fiscal years, the total defense spending will be increased to approximately 43 trillion yen (about 1.5 billion USD). Since the 2023 fiscal year, Japan’s defense budget has consecutively exceeded 6 trillion yen, 7 trillion yen, 8 trillion yen, and 9 trillion yen. Takaichi is seeking to revise the principle in Japan’s “non-nuclear three principles” regarding “not introducing nuclear weapons.” Related developments and the continued rise in defense spending have raised concerns and dissatisfaction among various sectors in Japan.
