I just came across a very interesting video interview. After spending many years in retirement, Duan Yongping was finally out sharing his 50 core viewpoints on investing, business, and education. The two-hour conversation, hosted by the founder of Xueqiu, was packed with solid takeaways.
What impressed me most was his understanding of the essence of investing. Duan Yongping said that investing is actually quite simple—the hard part is execution. The key is to genuinely understand a company’s business model and its future cash flows, rather than being distracted by short-term fluctuations. It sounds simple, but very few people can truly do it. He also emphasized the importance of trust in business cooperation, as well as the necessity of sticking to fundamental values—there should be no actions that violate principles just to benefit in the short term.
What’s interesting is that his view on corporate culture is also very deep. Duan Yongping believes that culture is not just slogans; it’s something that genuinely affects decisions and actions. He used his own experience as an example to show how important long-term thinking is for a company’s development.
As for education, he mentioned the importance of giving children a sense of security and setting positive role models for behavior. Although this isn’t an investing topic, it reflects his broader thinking about life.
The interview also touched on his views on major companies such as Apple, Tencent, and Moutai, along with his cautious attitude toward AI and electric vehicles. Duan Yongping’s viewpoints have always remained rational—he doesn’t blindly follow the trend, and that’s worth learning. Overall, the interview gives the feeling of an experienced investor sharing his genuine thought process, without any superficial “success story” flavor.
