France prosecutes 88 suspects for carrying out "screwdriver attacks" against cryptocurrency holders
Mars Finance News, citing Cointelegraph, reports that French National Anti-Organized Crime Prosecutor Vanessa Perrée said that 88 people have been indicted for allegedly carrying out “wrench attacks” targeting cryptocurrency holders. The group includes 10 minors; 75 individuals have been held in pretrial detention. The cases involve 12 matters being investigated by a pretrial judge at the Paris court. “Wrench attacks” refer to using violence—such as home invasions and kidnappings—to gain access to victims’ crypto wallets. Perrée said that some suspects are linked to multiple cases, revealing the existence of a structured network, and the investigation is still ongoing to identify all perpetrators and planners. Records from the French National Anti-Organized Crime Office show 18 such incidents in 2024, 67 in 2025, and 47 so far in 2026.
