When the funding rate hits an extreme, the group starts arguing about whether to take the other side.

Honestly, I see it more like origami: fold the rules first before taking action.
I'm just someone who follows the rules—when the rate is too outrageous, my first reaction isn't rushing in to buy the dip or sell at the top, but rather to flatten my position: reduce leverage, shrink to a level where I can withstand two or three price shocks.

Doing the opposite side is fine too, but you need to have a "retreat fold": only take the funding rate profit, don't fight the market;
once volatility amplifies and slippage gets dirty, I'd rather admit defeat and walk away.
Recently, the calendar for staking unlocks and token unlocks has been brought up every day, everyone fears selling pressure, but I see it as noise reminding me: don't treat the funding rate as certainty,
if you can avoid it, avoid it first; wait until the market emotions settle before acting.
