India makes a large import of 2.5 million tons of urea, potentially worsening global supply shortages

According to sources familiar with the matter, in the most recent tender completed in April, India purchased 2.5 million tons of urea at nearly twice the price from two months earlier. This deal could further worsen the recent tight global urea supply situation. Reuters reported on the 22nd that the quantity of urea purchased in this deal was enormous, the largest in India’s history. India is the world’s largest importer of urea, with an annual urea import of about 10 million tons in 2025. (Xinhua News Agency)
