The story of 'Bitcoin Rodney' is so amazing lol. Rodney Burton, promoter of the HyperFund scheme, is now facing 11 federal charges and possibly 20 years in prison. Do you know how much the scam was? $1.8 billion. Impressive. From 2020 to 2024, he pooled all the investors' money to buy luxury homes and yachts. His current net worth? Probably spiked really high because of the scam money.
Included among the defendants is Brenda Chunga, who has pleaded guilty, and co-founder Sam Lee is... nowhere to be found, not yet located. Federal prosecutors in Maryland are really serious about this case. Wire fraud, money laundering, unlicensed money transmitting—all of it is here. It sounds like a Hollywood script but it's real. The only question is, will the investors get justice? Hopefully at least.
