Recently, I've been experimenting with registering various overseas accounts again, and I realized how many pitfalls I’ve fallen into before. Using virtual numbers to receive verification codes seems simple, but in reality, there are many traps. Some platforms can’t receive texts for half a day, certain number segments are directly disabled due to risk control, wasting money and forcing a restart. After sorting through some options, I found only a few reliable platforms, so I’m sharing them to help everyone avoid pitfalls.

Basically, the code-receiving platform is just renting a temporary phone number to receive verification codes, saving you from using your real number. Compared to buying a new SIM card, this method is definitely more convenient. Among the ones I’ve used, SMS-Activate and 5SIM perform the most stably, with verification codes arriving within about 10 seconds, covering many countries, especially suitable for cross-border app testing. Super Cloud SMS’s Chinese number segments are also quite fast, usually within 5-20 seconds, though sometimes they get stuck during peak times. Xiaoniao Code mainly used for testing domestic apps, receiving within 5-15 seconds, with decent cost performance. Getsmscode is cheap, but support for less popular platforms is average, and latency can be high.

When using these platforms to receive verification codes, a few points to note: shared number segments are often used by others, and some websites may directly flag them as risky numbers; delays in receiving codes are common, especially for less common countries and apps; it’s best not to use virtual numbers as your main long-term number, as privacy and security are not guaranteed. My experience is to keep several numbers on standby, so you can switch immediately when one becomes invalid. Some platforms support one-click number switching, which is very convenient.

Also, these tools are only for protecting privacy, avoiding spam, or testing small accounts. Do not use them for other illegal activities. Choose a platform based on your needs: if you just need to test an API, pick one that supports API access; if you want stable registration on a specific overseas site, be prepared for more effort. Overall, selecting a reputable, active platform is the safest choice—don’t just go for the cheapest option and mess around.
