For some reason, Solana often finds itself in the spotlight of the crypto community, but few truly know about the person behind this project. Anatoly Yakovenko is the guy who didn’t just criticize blockchain issues but tried to solve them.

I learned that Yakovenko was born in Ukraine in 1981 and moved to the U.S. in the early 90s. An ordinary story, but with one difference – this guy had a serious background in developing high-performance systems. He worked at Qualcomm, Mesosphere, and Dropbox, gaining over 10 years of experience in optimization and scaling. It’s no coincidence.

Interestingly, Yakovenko started with Bitcoin in its early days but quickly realized that the real problem was scalability. Ethereum showed the potential of smart contracts, but speed and throughput remained bottlenecks. That’s where the idea came from.

In 2017, Anatoly Yakovenko, along with his co-founders, decided to create something revolutionary. They developed the consensus mechanism called "Proof of History," which allowed Solana to process transactions at incredible speeds while remaining decentralized and secure. Today, under Yakovenko’s leadership, Solana is considered one of the most efficient blockchains on the market.
