On the energy front, Trump still said, "We do not need oil from the Middle East. Thanks in part to Venezuela's oil and natural gas, the U.S. is now completely independent of the Middle East. The recent rise in domestic gasoline prices is a 'short-term' phenomenon. Oil production will soon increase significantly. The U.S. has never been better prepared economically." Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, which markets are most concerned about, Trump still did not provide a timetable for reopening: "We didn't need the Strait of Hormuz before, and we don't need it now.
