Understand Once and For All: K, Million, and Billion

Abstract generation in progress

Are you seeing those little letters K, M, B popping up everywhere? In crypto, on social media, on YouTube… that's right. Let's simplify this now.

K = Thousand (Very easy)

Simple: K stands for “kilo”, which is 1,000.

  • 1K = 1,000
  • 10K = 10,000
  • 100K = 100,000

Think about it this way: if you earn 5K a month, you are earning 5 thousand reais. It's easy.

M = Million (That big number)

Now it's getting interesting. 1 Million = 1,000,000

It was 1,000 reais (1K), now it is 1,000,000. Did you understand the difference?

  • 1M = 1,000,000
  • 5M = 5,000,000
  • 100M = 100,000,000

B = Billion (Then it becomes absurd)

1 Billion = 1,000,000,000

It's already another dimension of number.

  • 1B = 1.000.000.000
  • 10B = 10.000.000.000

Quick reference table:

Abbreviation Value in Numbers
1K 1,000
1M 1,000,000
1B 1.000.000.000

Why do you need to know this?

In crypto, you will see:

  • “Bitcoin rose to 100K” (means 100 thousand dollars)
  • “The market cap of this coin is 500M” (means 500 million)
  • “The project has a valuation of 2B” (means 2 billion)

If you don't know what these numbers mean, you'll be lost in the conversations.

Shall we use the knowledge now?
