Which Car Brands Actually Don't Break Down? 2025 Reliability Ranking Flips the Script

Abstract generation in progress

Consumer Reports just dropped their annual reliability rankings, and it's basically a Asia vs. The Rest situation.

The Big Picture: Foreign brands dominate the top 10 again in 2025. Asian automakers own 8 out of 10 spots with an average reliability score of 57/100—basically crushing it. German luxury (Audi, BMW) sneaks in with 48. U.S. automakers? Averaging just 38. Yikes.

The Top Tier (Basically Unbreakable):

  • Subaru leads at 68/100. Their lineup is solid across the board; even the Solterra EV couldn't drag them down
  • Lexus stays second at 65, with four above-average models
  • Toyota drops to third at 62—redesigned Tacoma and Tundra hit some bumps, but they're still banking on their track record

The Middle Pack (Pretty Solid):

  • Honda (59), Acura (55), Mazda (55) keeping the Japanese quality train rolling
  • Audi (54) and BMW (53) prove German engineering can be reliable if you service it right

The Risers (Worth Watching):

  • Kia and Hyundai both cracking top 10—Kia's Sorento Hybrid is the most reliable three-row SUV, Hyundai's Elantra Hybrid flexing too

Real Talk: If you want a car that won't nickel-and-dime you at the shop, Asian brands are your play. European luxury is getting better, but American brands are still playing catch-up.
