I went from a durian stall owner to a Crypto Assets player.
I have been selling durians at the market for eight years, and the calluses on my hands are embedded with the fragrance of the fruit, even my cuffs are stained with the bitterness of durian peels. Every summer, there is always a long line in front of my stall—Golden Pillow must be chosen with small cracks, the thorns have to be soft, and the Musang King needs to have a round shape with a clear "five-pointed star" at the bottom. My regular customers trust me, saying that I select durians more carefully than picking baby formula for my own kids.
Last winter was different. During the off-season for durians, there was no business, and I dozed off at my empty stall. Xiao Lin, the programmer who often came to buy fruits, would chat with me and say, "Qiang Ge, instead of hoarding durians, why not take a look at Crypto Assets? Finding the right timing can earn you money faster than selling fruits in peak season." At first, I thought he was just a young kid bragging, but by the end of the month, after calculating the expenses, including rent, utilities, and losses, I found that the remaining money was less than what Xiao Lin mentioned about a single 'short-line operation,' which made me ponder.
Gritting my teeth, I handed over my stall to a fellow villager, using my savings accumulated from selling durians for eight years, and jumped headfirst into the Crypto Assets market. At first, I felt like I was blindly picking durians, only daring to test the waters with small amounts. Watching the candlestick chart was more nerve-wracking than examining the thorns of a durian. I didn't dare to put my phone down during meals, afraid of missing out on market movements. But Crypto Assets are not as easy to understand as durians. There’s no ripeness to judge, no aroma to distinguish. The numbers that excited me to the point of insomnia the night before turned green the next day, making my palms sweat cold.
One time the market plummeted, and I suddenly lost half of my initial investment. Sitting in front of the computer staring at the screen, I suddenly thought of the days at the vegetable market: although it was tiring, as long as the durians were good enough, I didn’t have to worry about no one buying. I didn’t give up, just like when I researched how to distinguish between the Jialun and Tomanis, I started to look for information and analyze, even dreaming at night about "moving averages" and "trading volume." Gradually, I also figured out a bit of the trick and no longer followed the trend blindly like I did at the beginning.
Now in my phone, the durian supply group has long been removed, replaced by the Crypto Assets exchange group. But I always tell the people in the group: "Whether selling durians or doing this, the principle is the same; you have to understand the industry and be practical. You can't just think about making quick money." Occasionally, when I pass by the old vegetable market, I still buy a durian to take home. The moment I peel open the flesh and smell that familiar sweetness, it feels like I've touched the lively atmosphere from back in the day — that is the most reassuring flavor in my heart after weathering the storms.
