The father of 'PUBG': Did not consider incorporating Non-fungible Tokens into the metaverse 'Artemis', but may integrate blockchain technology
Brendan Greene, the creator of the online battle royale shooting game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG), left the development team of the game in 2019 and announced plans to create a new generation of game-centric metaverse called 'Artemis', which is unlikely to include Non-fungible Tokens. Greene recently said in an interview with IGN that he "hasn't even considered" incorporating Non-fungible Tokens, and his game studio, PlayerUnkown Productions, is currently developing the project.
He added, 'What we care about is getting the engine to a state where we can create things in it, and then, as I said, the second game, we will test ideas, but actually, we haven't even thought about it yet. More just making some fun games.' Although Non-fungible Token may not appear in Greene's metaverse, he said blockchain technology may be integrated at some point. "Blockchain is an interesting financial tool, as a layer in the digital world... Perhaps the future iterations of blockchain or hashgraph or this technology will be interesting," Greene said, "Ultimately, it's a digital ledger, and if we can use a digital ledger, we'll find the best one and use it." He also said that the metaverse has become a "dirty word", and he refuted the actions of other metaverse creators, saying that they created "(intellectual property) bubbles" that were made from substandard technology and failed to deliver the hype: "I think everyone is building an IP bubble, and if lucky, these bubbles may interact with each other at some point in the future, but this is not the metaverse."
