World Adds 128-Bit Post-Quantum Security to Provekit v1 ZK Toolkit for World ID

According to World Foundation, the organization recently unveiled Provekit v1, an open-source zero-knowledge proving toolkit that integrates 128-bit post-quantum cryptographic security and enables users to generate identity proofs on smartphones and web browsers. The toolkit, already integrated into World ID, uses a hash-based commitment scheme called WHIR instead of traditional elliptic-curve mathematics, eliminating the need for trusted setup and allowing low-end devices to handle computations without storing large proving keys. Benchmark tests show the toolkit generates proofs in seconds on standard smartphones and under 30 seconds on low-end hardware, with proof sizes averaging roughly 1 MB. World Foundation plans to develop Provekit v2 to further reduce proof sizes and improve on-chain verification efficiency.
