Global Warming Amplifies El Nino's Drought Impact on India by 35-55%, Study Shows

According to a study published on August 5 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research in the journal Nature, global warming is amplifying El Nino's suppressive effect on Indian summer monsoon rainfall. Researchers found that El Nino events of equal intensity could trigger significantly more severe droughts across South Asia in the future compared to the present. The team projects that if global warming continues, El Nino's impact on India's summer precipitation will intensify by 35-55% relative to current levels.
