Russia and Iran to Finalize Long-Term Gas Deal via Azerbaijan as Transit Route

Russia and Iran will soon finalize a long-term natural gas agreement after multiple rounds of negotiations, with officials from both countries confirming that Azerbaijan has been selected as the primary transit corridor for Russian gas exports to Iran. Iran, which holds the world's second-largest natural gas reserves, faces a structural supply shortfall of 200–300 million cubic meters per day during peak demand periods. The imports are intended to address supply gaps in northern Iran and support the country's expanded exports to Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, Pakistan, and Oman.
