Crypto-Backed Incumbent Thanedar Loses Michigan Primary; McKinney Wins 51.9% to 48.1% Despite $2M PAC Spending

According to The New York Times, Donavan McKinney defeated crypto-backed incumbent Shri Thanedar in Michigan's 13th Congressional District Democratic primary on Wednesday with 51.9% of the vote to Thanedar's 48.1%. A cryptocurrency-backed political action committee (PAC) affiliated with Fairshake spent more than $2 million on media attempting to re-elect Thanedar, who has voted in favor of multiple bills benefiting the industry. McKinney, a progressive challenger to the two-term incumbent, has already received support from the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Socialists of America. He will face Republican candidate Taras Nykoriak in November's general election.
