Mastercard and Borderless Launch Stablecoin Cross-Border Payment Verification Pilot

MA-1.06%

According to ChainCatcher, Mastercard and Borderless announced a pilot program to test identity verification and compliance infrastructure for cross-border stablecoin payments using the Mastercard Crypto Credential framework. The initiative aims to provide transaction participants with verifiable credentials for compliance review and risk management.

Borderless co-founder and CEO Kevin Lehtiniitty stated that compliance has been the primary barrier to stablecoin payment adoption at scale, and Mastercard is applying traditional finance trust models to digital asset payments. The framework will serve as a governance and verification layer, though Mastercard will not directly handle funds. The partnership extends Mastercard's stablecoin strategy, which recently included the $1.8 billion acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure company BVNK.
